Lake Amistad is a big, beautiful, clear lake on the US border with Mexico, located about 10 miles northwest of Del Rio, Texas. The lake has about 850 miles of shoreline, with a surface area - depending on lake level - of about 65,000 acres.

The lake is fed by the Devils River, Pecos River, and Rio Grande River and is created by the Amistad Dam which stretches across the Rio Grand, from the US to Mexico. Amistad Dam is a hydro electric dam that also serves as flood control for the Rio Grande Valley.

Recreation is the order of the day on Lake Amistad, with the most popular form being fishing. In the past, Lake Amistad has enjoyed a high ranking from Bass Masters as one of the best bass fishing lakes in the US.

The lake sports beautiful cliffs and ancient rock art, spring fed waterfalls (depending on lake level) and plenty of room for water skiing and personal water craft, as well as secluded coves for swimming and wide open waters that are great for sailing.

Lake Amistad is clear, and ideal for diving, offering a consistent visibility of 40 - 50 ft in the winter months. The water temperature ranges from about 55 degrees in the winter, to 85 degrees in the summer.
